AAAF Celebrates Hiring of AAPI Presidential Campaign Managers
The board of the Asian American Action Fund congratulates and celebrates the historic hiring of Roger Lau to helm Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign and of Faiz Shakir to head Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign.
Roger Lau
Lau previously served as Warren’s chief of staff and brings experience on John Kerry’s 2004 presidential bid.
Shakir was most recently national political director for the ACLU and advised Sen. Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the Center for American Progress.
It is the first time in history that major presidential candidates, much less two front-runners for the Democratic nomination, have chosen Asian Americans to manage their campaigns.
“Personnel is policy, and our community sees Warren and Sanders putting AAPIs in the driver’s seat. Representation matters tremendously, and we look forward to other campaigns elevating AAPIs to top decision-making levels,” said Paul Tiao, AAAF co-founder. “We’re thrilled that Sens. Warren and Sanders have AAPI campaign managers, and that AAPIs will continue to lead the fight to take back the White House.”

While AAAF board members have individual preferences, they are uniformly excited to see AAPIs performing at an unprecedented level.
The Asian American Action Fund (AAAFund.org) is a Democratic political action committee founded in 1999. Its goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in every level of local, state and federal government.
