AARP Salutes Veterans for Their Service

WASHINGTON — AARP is saying thank you to the countless veterans and military men and women who have done so much to serve and protect through a special promotion in honor of Veterans Day.

Through Nov. 16, AARP will offer a discounted membership rate up to 20 percent off for veterans, their families and anyone interested in joining or renewing. A portion of the member dues will be used to help support various veterans’ organizations in local communities across the country that provide vital support services to courageous American heroes.

“Asian Americans have valiantly served our country since the War of 1812,” said Daphne Kwok, AARP vice president of multicultural leadership, Asian American and Pacific Islander audience. “The individuals who served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team (the most decorated service in the entire history of the U.S. military), the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 407th Air Service Squadron, the 987th Signal Company, the Philippine Scouts, the 1st Filipino Battalion, and the United States Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE), and those who served more recently in Iraq, Afghanistan and the world over have demonstrated courage and sacrifice. All our military men and women are heroes to be commended.”

Individuals who sign up through the Thank a Vet campaign will also have the opportunity to write a personal thank you note to be shared with veterans throughout the country. This is an additional way for AARP members to share their support and appreciation for the brave men and women who have served their country.
