Bay Area Student Selected for Youth Advisory Board at Harvard’s Making Caring Common Project

REDWOOD SHORES — Making Caring Common (MCC), a project of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, on Oct. 24 announced the members of its second Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

The board represents a diverse group of young people who will work with MCC over the next year to make schools and communities more just, caring, and respectful places.

Kaitlin (Katie) Keiko Wong

Kaitlin (Katie) Keiko Wong from Carlmont High School in Belmont was selected from nearly 200 nominees. Wong, who is also a JACL youth member, is the daughter of Eric and Lisa (Aoyama) Wong and granddaughter of Calvin and Emily Aoyama of Redwood Shores and Pat Wong of Foster City.

The 2016-2017 Youth Advisory Board includes 26 members who represent 15 states across the nation and a diversity of backgrounds and identities. All YAB members demonstrate a strong commitment to MCC’s mission of building just, caring, and respectful communities.

“We are incredibly excited to work with such a passionate group of young people who are committed to cultivating a culture of kindness in their schools and communities,” said MCC Research Director Luba Falk Feigenberg, who leads the Youth Advisory Board. “Now in its second year, the Youth Advisory Board contributes a critical perspective that shapes our work with parents and educators.”
