Campaigning for Council

Leilani Kimmel-Dagostino (second from right), a candidate for Torrance City Council next year, held a campaign fundraiser on Sept. 24 at the Depot Restaurant in Torrance. She is pictured with (from left) Terry Raggins, Torrance Unified School District board member; Terry Furey, wife of Mayor Pat Furey and Torrance Education Foundation board member; and Terri Nishimura, president of Pediatric Therapy Network.

All guests who attend Kimmel-Dagostino’s fundraisers get “winged” — a carryover from her 40 years in the airline industry when wings would be given to small passengers to welcome them.

Kimmel-Dagostino is introduced by Mayor Furey.

The candidate’s supporters include Rob and Robert Van Lingen, owners of Van Lingen Towing Company.

Kimmel-Dagostino, whose maternal grandparents came from Japan, has said the council needs Asian Pacific American representation. Her civic experience includes chairing the Torrance Commission on Aging. She ran for the council last year and finished fifth out of 16 candidates.
