The program will include a keynote by Noriko Sanefuji, assistant curator for Executive Order 9066 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History. She will share an exciting update on the museum’s special exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the World War II imprisonment of 110,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry.

Additionally, the Smithsonian will be accepting personal camp artifacts to be evaluated for possible inclusion in this historic exhibition opening in February 2017 in Washington, D.C. Artifacts will also be considered for the museum’s ongoing Japanese American collection.

Camp artifacts of particular interest to the museum include: military uniforms (especially 100th Infantry Battalion or 442nd Regimental Combat Team); photos of Nisei veterans; handmade toys and other children’s items; games, playing cards and other recreational items; report cards, yearbooks and textbooks; birth and death certificates; employment documentation and records; sports memorabilia; newsletters and personal letters; resettlement documents; redress documents; Hawaii incarceration documents.
