Dr. Vince Beresford Named President of Go For Broke

After a highly competitive national search, Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) has selected Vince Beresford as its president.

With more than 20 years of success in higher education and non-profit leadership, Beresford brings a new level of expertise to the organization.

“We are excited to welcome Vince Beresford on board as our new president,” said Bill Seki, GFBNEC board chair. “Vince’s unique experience in the education and non-profit sectors, combined with his community spirit, and leadership capabilities will continue to strengthen and grow our organization as we move into our next phase.”

Most recently, Beresford served as adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University, where he created experiential-based curriculum. He has also held executive director positions at The Child S.H.A.R.E. Program and the With Hope Foundation, and was previously an associate professor at Spring Arbor University.

He earned his doctorate in leadership in emerging culture from George Fox University, and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Azusa Pacific University.

“I am thrilled to be joining Go For Broke National Education Center at this exciting juncture,” said Beresford. “With the opening of the ‘Defining Courage’ exhibition and new facilities, GFBNEC is about to launch into a new era. I look forward to growing the organization on a national scale.”

The new GFBNEC facilities are located in the historic Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Little Tokyo. During World War II, the temple became a gathering place where Japanese Americans were forced to assemble before being sent to incarceration camps. The temple held these displaced families’ belongings until they were able to reclaim them after the war.

GFBNEC will debut its new interpretive exhibition and facilities to the public on Saturday, May 28. The first of its kind, the learning center and exhibition will be a full sensory experience designed to teach history, civics, and activism in a hands-on environment. Unlike a museum, the co-creative exhibition will use history as an actionable tool to confront modern issues in people’s lives today.
