Final Fundraising Push for Kimochi San Mateo

SAN MATEO — A fundraising dinner for Kimochi San Mateo/The Tomoye and Henri Takahashi Center will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Bayview Dining Room at College of San Mateo, 1700 W. Hillsdale Blvd. in San Mateo.

The schedule is as follows:

5 p.m. — Silent auction, no-host bar, hors d’oeuvres, taiko performance by San Mateo Buddhist Temple

6:15 p.m. — Dinner and program co-emceed by Wendy Tokuda and Benh Nakajo; capital campaign presentation and announcements; live auction

9 p.m. — Silent and live auction close out

Tickets are $175 per person or $1,750 for table of 10.

“When we embarked on the Kimochi San Mateo Capital Campaign 2½ years ago, we faced a $2.5 million fundraising challenge,” said a Kimochi spokesperson. “But we kept an eye to the end goal: a home in San Mateo County to support Peninsula seniors and their families and caregivers, a new kitchen for home-delivered meals, a family caregiver support program, and day services for seniors — all in the Kimochi tradition of care.

“Since that kick-off, with collective support from friends and families, community and corporations, we have made great strides toward that fundraising goal … Join us for our Kimochi San Mateo celebration and help us make the final fundraising push to open our doors by end of year.”

Kimochi is a nationally recognized community organization established in San Francisco in 1971. It provides a continuum of culturally sensitive programs and services for Bay Area seniors to preserve their dignity and independence, with a focus on the Japanese American and Japanese-speaking community.
