Florin Obon Festival on July 18
Everyone is invited to take part in the Obon Odori.
SACRAMENTO — Buddhist Church of Florin, 7235 Pritchard Rd. in Sacramento, will hold its annual Obon Festival on Saturday, July 18.
Obon Odori starts at 7:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available.
Hatsubon service for those who have passed away since the last Obon will be held at 3 p.m. with Rev. Harry Bridge of Buddhist Church of Oakland as guest speaker.
Performances and demonstrations:
4:30 p.m. — Sacramento Betsuin Choir
5 p.m. — ACC Pocket Pickers
5:30 p.m. — Iaido
6 p.m. — Rev. Yuki Sugihara and Rev. Harry Bridge (guitar), Placer Ume Taiko
6:30 p.m. — Florin Ukulele, Sacramento Kendo
7 p.m. — Sacramento Taiko Dan
Cultural exhibits will be presented by Florin JACL (origami), Sacramento Japanese Sword Club, Sacramento-Matsuyama Sister City Corporation, and Mataro Kimekomi Doll Academy of Northern California. There will also be a farmer’s market and a boutique.
The last odori practice will be held on Thursday, July 16, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Mark your calendars: The church’s Food Bazaar is set for Sunday, Sept. 13.
