Hawaii Governor Commemorates Pearl Harbor Anniversary

HONOLULU — In observance of the 74th anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor and other installations across the state, Hawaii Gov. David Ige honored survivors and those who lost their lives at a ceremony at Kilo Pier, Joint Base Pearl Harbor.

More than 2,000 guests, including Pearl Harbor survivors and other veterans, attended the National Park Service and U.S. Navy-hosted joint memorial ceremony. This year’s theme focused on “The Road to Reconciliation.”

As the national and state flags continued to fly at half-staff at all state offices, agencies and the Hawaii National Guard by a standing declaration effective since Dec. 3, Ige expressed his heartfelt gratitude while recalling the sacrifices of those who served during World War II, with a special remembrance for those who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

“We honor their dedication and the sacrifices they made for our country, and we pay tribute to the families they left behind. We stand together to pledge to uphold their legacy and honor their memory,” said Ige.
