Health, Sports, and Culture Day at JAMsj

SAN JOSE — The Japanese American Museum of San Jose, 535 N. Fifth St. in San Jose Japantown, will present Health, Sports and Culture Day on Sunday, Oct. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Health and Sports Day, usually held on Oct. 10 in Japan, is the anniversary of the opening ceremony of the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo. With the Summer Olympics coming to Tokyo again in 2020, JAMsj will bring this event closer to San Jose’s Japantown with its own version, an afternoon of bringing health, sports, and culture together.

The museum will also be open with bilingual (English/Japanese) docents on hand for guided tours.

To open this event, there will be an obento lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon. If a lunch is desired, it must be preordered by Saturday, Oct. 3. Cost is $12 for adults, $8 for kids. Go to http://tinyurl.com/jamsjHRC.

From 12 noon to 2 p.m., there will be performances and activities for kids:

Marimo Kai koto group performance
