Home Stretch


Ernie Nishii (center), pictured during a September rally at Cerritos High School, is entering the home stretch of his campaign for the ABC Unified School District Board. A rally was also held on Nov. 1 ahead of Tuesday’s election. In Trustee Area 3, incumbent Lynda Johnson, who has served since 2011, faces former candidate Daniel Fierro, newcomer Nishii, and former member Armin Reyes. Nishii, an attorney, a board member of the Southeast Japanese School and Community Center, and the father of a Whitney High School student, has lived in Cerritos for 13 years. His platform includes more instruction for better performance, counseling for right-sizing education, preparing youth for success, making schools enjoyable for kids, and term limits for board members.

In her bid for re-election to the Trustee Area 2 seat, incumbent Soo Y. Yoo is running unopposed and will not appear on the ballot. She will be re-elected to the board by default, The race for the Trustee Area 6 seat includes former candidate Louise Dodson and newcomer Olga Rios. The ABC Unified school board consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Elections are held on a staggered basis every November of odd-numbered years.
