Japantown 110th Anniversary Community Family Picnic
SAN FRANCISCO — The Japantown 110th Anniversary Community Family Picnic will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Old Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
Old Speedway Meadow stretches back from the parking lot along the east side of 41st Avenue/Chain of Lakes Boulevard, between MLK and JFK drives. There is no sign marking Old Speedway Meadow, but the parking lot is visible from the street.
Community picnics were important to the Issei and Nisei generations as a social and cultural event, and as a way to strengthen their community. The 100th Anniversary Picnic was a memorable milestone. Now, a decade later, the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California celebrates the community’s continued dedication to the preservation of our history and culture that has been passed down by those who came before us.
It is in “kansha,” with gratitude, that a community picnic celebrates 110 years.
Pack a picnic basket. Bring a dessert to share. Gather with family, friends and community for a day of food, games for all, entertainment and fun.
Enjoy hot dogs provided midday by the San Francisco Nisei Fishing Club and the San Francisco JACL. Sign up for the J-Town’s Got Talent Karaoke and Lip Sync Contest. Get your 50/50 Raffle tickets.
