Linda Yamauchi Elected President of County Aging Commission

Leading the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging into its 2015-2016 fiscal year is Alhambra resident Linda Yamauchi, who was elected to the office of president at the Commission’s recent annual luncheon.

Appointed to the commission by Supervisor Michael Antonovich, Yamauchi has served for three years, the past two as the organization’s second vice president.

Yamauchi’s career spanned almost 30 years in the utility industry. After graduating from UCLA, she began her career at the Southern California Gas Company. In 1993 she joined Southern California Edison, where she retired in 2013 as the manager of consumer affairs.

She continues to be active in the community, supporting several organizations. She serves on the executive boards of the Center for Asian Pacific American Women and the Little Tokyo Service Center. She is also a member of the Environmental Committee for the City of Alhambra.

She resides in Alhambra with her husband of 49 years, Gary, who is serving his third term on the Alhambra City Council.

Established in 1949 by the Board of Supervisors, LACCOA is a volunteer organization whose mission is to preserve and promote the health and general welfare of older persons living in Los Angeles County. Commissioners advise and make recommendations regarding the needs and welfare of seniors to the Board of Supervisors, as well as to departments of county government that provide services to the aging population.

In addition, LACCOA works with the L.A. County Department of Community and Senior Services to encourage and assist local communities and related groups to provide programs designed to inform and create self-sufficiency among senior persons within their own communities.
