Rep. Doris Matsui

“The president’s historic trip to Hiroshima compels us to reflect on the devastating tolls of war, but also the possibilities of peace. The United States and Japan have built a special friendship rooted in the ideals we both share, as evidenced in the president’s visit.

“President Obama has demonstrated continued leadership in his commitment to non-proliferation and nuclear security, an urgent mission that requires global participation. As the president touched on in his remarks, it is our common humanity as citizens of the world that drives us to seek tolerance and understanding, and rise above our fears in the pursuit of peace.

“As we strive for a more stable world, let us elevate the lessons of our past, and give them the power to shape our future.”
