Obon Odori in Sacramento This Weekend; Bazaar Next Month

SACRAMENTO — Buddhist Church of Sacramento, 2401 Riverside Blvd. in Sacramento, will hold its annual Obon Odori on Saturday, July 9, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to join in the dancing. The final practice will be held on Thursday, July 7, at 7 p.m. Food provided by the Troop 50 and Troop 250 Matsuyama Scout Exchange Program will be available starting at 6:15 p.m.

Due to line painting, those who wish to watch the Obon Odori can place their chairs on Friday, July 8, after 6 p.m.

On July 9, there will be Obon cemetery visitations at Oddfellows (9 a.m.), Sacramento Memorial (10 a.m.), East Lawn (11 a.m.) and the church’s Nokotsudo (12 p.m.).

Obon/Hatsubon service will be held on Sunday, July 10, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Japanese service at 1:30 p.m.

SAVE THE DATE: The church’s 70th annual bazaar will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., featuring Japanese cultural performances and arts, traditional Japanese cuisine, games, prizes, imported gifts, and a craft fair.
