Rebels with a Cause

Janice D. Tanaka’s new documentary, “Rebel with a Cause: The Life of Aiko Herzig Yoshinaga,” had its world premiere during the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on April 24 at the Downtown Independent and April 26 at the Japanese American National Museum. Pictured from left at JANM are Donald Hata, Tanaka, Thomas Fujita Rony, Yoshinaga, Martha Nakagawa, Lisa Abe Furutani (Yoshinaga’s daughter), Nobuko Miyamoto, Bob Miyamoto and Gerrie Lani Miyazaki (Yoshinaga’s daughter). Yoshinaga’s son-in-law, Warren Furutani, also attended the screening. Yoshinaga is an activist and archival researcher who played a key role in the Japanese American redress movement during the 1980s. Friends and family members were interviewed for the film. (MARIO G.
