Furutani defeated former Assemblymember Steve Bradford by a vote 108 (68 percent) to 50 (32 percent) to earn the group’s endorsement in the 35th State Senate District.

The San Pedro Democratic Club is the second Democratic club to endorse in this race, joining the Mexican American Democratic Club in endorsing Furutani.

The San Pedro Democratic Club is one of the largest party organizations in the district. The victory marks Furutani’s latest success in the Harbor area of Long Beach, Wilmington and San Pedro, which encompasses the largest bloc of voters in the district.

Furutani, a former assemblymember, has already been endorsed by Los Angeles City Councilmember Joe Buscaino and Los Angeles Board of Education School member Richard Vladovic, two of the most popular elected officials in the area.

“I’m honored that Democrats in the district recognize my long track record of fighting for jobs, civil rights, and better schools,” said Furutani. “That’s how we are going to win this race.”

The election for the Senate seat currently held by Isadore Hall (D-Compton), who is running for Congress, will take place next year.
