Screening of ‘Joy of Man’s Desiring’

In observance of the fifth anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, a screening and discussion of “Joy of Man’s Desiring” (Hito no Nozomi no Yorokobi yo) with director Masakazu Sugita will be held on Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. at the Nibei Foundation, 11570 W. Olympic Blvd. in Los Angeles.

Dinner (by preorder only) starts at 6 p.m.

Sugita experienced the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995 when he was 14 year old. He couldn’t do anything for the victims at that time. After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he decided to create the film that he truly wanted.

When massive earthquakes occur, there are always casualties and many children are orphaned. This is the story of a sister and brother who lost their parents suddenly in a disaster.

All proceeds go to SIFF (NPO) and NGO JEN’s Tohoku project. Students organized events in Los Angeles as well as in Seattle on March 10, communicating with Sugita via Skype.
