Sumo Day in S.F. Japantown


SAN FRANCISCO — The Japan Center Malls present the Sumo Champions Exhibition on the weekend of Sept. 19-20 at Japantown Peace Plaza, Post and Buchanan streets.

Special guests include Kelly (6’0”, 440 pounds), five-time U.S. sumo champion; Yama (6’4”, 600 pounds, said to be the heaviest Japanese ever; and Byamba (6’1”, 370 pounds, four-time world sumo champion.

On Saturday, meet-and-greet with kids starts at 5 p.m. On Sunday, live matches will be held at 12, 2 and 4 p.m., followed by meet-and-greet at 5 p.m.
