‘To Be Takei’ Coming to San Jose
SAN JOSE — The documentary “To Be Takei” will be screened Saturday, Nov. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, 535 N. 5th St. (near Jackson) in San Jose Japantown.
George Takei, currently starring in the Broadway musical “Allegiance,” is probably most widely known for his role as Sulu in the television series “Star Trek.” The two main themes of the film revolve around Takei’s being a former Tule Lake incarceree and his being gay. He devotes much of his time educating the public about the internment of Japanese Americans and advocating for LGBT rights.
JAMsj was a community consultant to this film.
The producer, Jennifer Kroot, will be available for a Q&A session after the showing.
“Come join us at the friendliest and most convenient movie house in San Jose to learn more about this engaging and talented actor,” said a JAMsj spokesperson.
In addition, a special, short “extra” interview with JAMsj Curator Jimi Yamaichi will be shown. This interview was filmed in the museum’s Barracks Room.
