World Premiere of ‘Man of God’ at EWP

East West Players presents the world premiere of “Man of God” by Anna Moench, directed by Jesca Prudencio, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 24 at the David Henry Hwang Theater, 120 Judge John Aiso St. in Little Tokyo.

A hidden discovery in a hotel bathroom changes the lives of four Korean American Christian girls on a mission trip to Thailand. Samantha is hurt that someone she trusted could betray her. Jen is worried about how this might affect her college applications. Kyung-Hwa thinks everyone should adjust their expectations. Mimi’s out for blood.

Amid the neon lights and go-go bars in Bangkok, the girls plot revenge in this funny, feminist thriller.

Featuring Katherine Ko, SunHee Seo, Sandy Nguyen, Michele Selene Ang and Roy Vongtama.

The creative team includes Andy Lowe, fight director; Justin Humphres, scenic design; Rebecca Bonebrake, lighting design; Howard Ho, sound design; Alexis Carrie, costume design; Allison Mamann, property master; and Brandon Hong Cheng, stage manager.

Preview performances: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31, Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m.

Opening night: Thursday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. Pre-show cocktail hour at 7 p.m. and post-show reception with cast and creative team.

Regular performances: Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.

Pay-what-you-can performance on Thursday, Feb. 14. Patrons can begin to line up in front of the box office at 7 p.m. Post-show discussion on Sunday, Feb. 17, immediately following the 2 p .m. performance. A complimentary glass of red or white wine will be served before Friday shows during the regular performance run. Must be 21+.

Cast Bios


Michele Selene Ang is an actor and writer currently based in Los Angeles. She graduated from Fordham University in New York with a degree in theatre performance, and can be seen on the hit Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” and the CBS show “Elementary.”


SunHee Heo was an inaugural member of Theatre Esprit Asia, the first Asian American theatre company in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. She has played Viola (“Twelfth Night”), Marcy (“25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”), Girl/Young Sah-jin (“99 Histories”) and Yu-na (“Half-Vanilla,” winner of Best Web Series/TV Pilot at the London Independent Film Awards). She studies film and theatre at USC. “Man of God” is her first theatre production since coming to L.A.

Katherine Ko was born and raised in Southern California. She received her MFA from UC San Diego in 2017. She is currently filming a recurring role in “The Morning Show” and this past year had a guest role in a television pilot, “The Fix,” played Tong in “Vietgone” by Qui Nguyen, directed by Jesca Prudencio, at San Diego Rep, and Hermia in “Midsummer Night’s Dream” with the L.A. Philharmonic. She is also a trained dancer and runs a Korean dance studio with her mother in Koreatown.


Sandy Nguyen is extremely proud to make her debut with East West Players. She is a current student in theater and critical theory & social justice at Occidental College. She hails from Chicago, where she has worked with the About Face Theatre and American Theater Company.


Roy Vongtama is a Thai American actor, doctor, writer and producer whose credits include the Ovation Award-winning “Watching OJ,” as well as the lead role in Ezekiel Theater’s musical “Son of Man.” Film credits include “The Bucket List” with Jack Nicholson. In his non-acting life, he helps people fight cancer as an integrative radiation oncologist and published his first book, “Healing Before You’re Cured.” He also produces films, most recently “After the Rain” on Amazon Prime.
